Description
2008-P Elongated Jefferson Nickel – Nicholas M. Graver, Rochester, New YorkOffered for your consideration is a 2008-P Jefferson Nickel, elongated and bearing an advertisement for an unusual New York photographer. This advertisement is imprinted on the reverse of the coin, hence the ability of the seller to be able to determine the date and mintmark of the host coin. The advertisement features a view of a bearded gentleman, wearing a suit and vest, standing beside an antique box camera. Above this is “
NICHOLAS M. GRAVER
/
ROCHESTER, NY
”, the name and address of the advertiser, while below is “
PHOTOGRAPHIC
/
ANTIQUARIAN
/
COLLECTS
/
PHOTOS
/
AND
/
DAGUERREOTYPES
”. At the very top is “
RWD
” in cursive script. A circle of dots encircles the entire design.
By its very nature, this piece is significantly elongated, with the obverse design being quite flattened. The condition of the advertisement is difficult to determine, though there is a significant mark beside the head of the photographer. Toning can be seen across the surface, though whether the coin was uncirculated when it was elongated is unknown to the seller. An interesting item with an unusual subject.
